RAS200: embedding astronomy in society for the future

The Prince’s Trust supports young people between the ages of 11 and 30, who have often had really difficult life challenges to overcome, and feel like their life prospects are limited. We support, encourage, upskill and inspire young people to give them the best opportunities to find work, get back into education or training. Our ambition for our young people is that they have the confidence and skills to be able to find employment and reach their potential and beyond.
As we all know the future workforce is very much based on STEM skills, and it was part of our strategy to embed STEM skillsets into all of our programmes. The RAS200 project came at perfect time for us. We were able to use this project to train our youth workers to deliver a ‘Stars and Space’ project across our foundations programme, which supports some of the hardest to reach young people. We were able to deliver this programme across the whole of the UK. Our young people and youth workers absolutely loved it, and it was mostly for the mental wellbeing element it brought to the group of young people they were working with, as well as learning a bit more about astronomy. The project has changed, grown and more recently flourished in its virtual transition. We have loved the partnership with RAS200, the support they have given us more broadly and the incredible support we have also gained from the RAS Fellows.
All attendees are expected to show respect and courtesy to other attendees and staff, and to adhere to the NAM Code of Conduct.
