In the z~1-3 Universe, the global star-formation rate density was at its peak, with dust-obscured star-forming galaxies (SFGs) believed to be a significant contributor. Therefore, studying this obscured population can provide strong constraints on models of galaxy formation and evolution. We have recently obtained precise identifications and multi-wavelength properties for over 1000 submillimetre galaxies (SMGs), a population among the most active dusty SFGs, that are suggested to be progenitors of the most massive and compact early-type galaxies in the local Universe. To further our understanding of the dynamical properties of these galaxies while measuring precise and accurate spectroscopic redshifts, we are undertaking a KMOS large programme, KAOSS, which will eventually observe over 500 SMGs, in order to obtain resolved Ha and/or [OIII] line detections and address the many outstanding questions regarding the population, such as how they are triggered and how they cluster. I will present preliminary spectral properties, velocity fields and rotation curves for a subset of the targets from this survey.
