Early science and commissioning opportunities with the Vera C. Rubin Observatory
Invited
Bob Mann (University of Edinburgh)
The UK community has benefitted greatly from the decision that international researchers will gain the right to access proprietary data from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory's Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) via in-kind contributions to Rubin operations, rather than through the subscription model originally envisaged. The well-established LSST:UK Science Centre (LUSC) programme, funded by STFC since 2015 to prepare for LSST data, has formed the core of an ambitious UK in-kind proposal, intended to increase the number of UK astronomers with data rights and earn the UK a place in the Rubin operations consortium. This talk will summarise that in-kind proposal and provide an update on the current status of the negotiations that will secure the UK's place in the Rubin LSST.
All attendees are expected to show respect and courtesy to other attendees and staff, and to adhere to the NAM Code of Conduct.
