Early science and commissioning opportunities with the Vera C. Rubin Observatory
Invited
Graham P Smith (Birmingham)
The next two years will be an exciting period for colleagues planning to do science with data from the Vera Rubin Observatory. In particular, the commissioning camera (ComCam) is due to be mounted on the telescope in late 2021, and the full survey operations are due to start late 2023. This is within the context of LSST:UK negotiating to become a partner in the Rubin operations consortium, via in-kind contributions that include UK colleagues joining Rubin's commissioning team. I will present an overview of Rubin commissioning plans and describe the opportunities and process for UK colleagues to join the commissioning team.
